St Joseph’s Swimming Report (Autumn Term) by D. Ferris (Sports Co-ordinator)

On 14th November, 14 boys & girls from years 4, 5&6 represented the school at the ‘Midland’s ISA Swimming Gala’ at the Walsall swimming baths – one of the largest sporting events on the ISA calendar. Mr Dawes (Swimming Co-ordinator & Year 5 Form Teacher) was optimistic of some good individual performances, but what happened exceeded all expectations!

St Josephs’ Swim team enjoyed their best ever performance at this year’s gala with 9x ‘Top 8’ point scoring performances resulting in the School finishing 8th overall from 19 competing schools. The best team performances came from the year 5 boys who finished in 5th place and the year 6 boys who unbelievably finished in 1st position.

Furthermore, Andrew received an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ and he & Elijah were selected for the Midlands year 6 Swim team to compete at the National ISA Swimming Gala’ yesterday at the Coventry baths. At this event, Andrew narrowly missed out on a Bronze medal in the Breaststroke, but won a Gold medal swimming the Butterfly length in the ‘Medley Relay’. Another Gold medal was won by both boys in the ‘Freestyle Relay’.

Congratulations to all our swimmers on a fantastic effort at the Midlands’ gala, but particularly well done to Andrew & Elijah for their medal winning performances at the Nationals. Another example of St Joseph’s punching above their weight!

Thanks go out to Mr Dawes for his time and effort at swimming lessons on Thursdays and to all Parents who gave their support at both Gala’s.
