St Joseph’s Preparatory School is the leading Independent Roman Catholic co-educational school in North Staffordshire. The school is built on the tradition of our founders, The Congregation of Christian Brothers, and the ethos of the school reflects their challenge to seek and live out gospel values in the competitive climate of today's educational world.

We seek to foster a breadth of educational opportunity based on a strong academic foundation and to ensure that all our pupils benefit from this, irrespective of their ability, race or culture.

The school is split into three sections: The Nursery, The Pre-Prep and the Prep Departments……

  • THE NURSERY….creates an environment where children from 3 years onwards are allowed to flourish. There is a maximum intake of 16 children into our nursery class with two qualified nursery staff ensuring individual attention to all. Children follow a structured day and the curriculum includes Music, P. E. and Dance. Play is also an important part of the nursery day and the separate nursery playground and park help to encourage this.

  • THE PRE-PREP DEPARTMENT….is for children aged 4 to 7 years who follow a wide and interesting curriculum which includes French and Ballet. The maximum class size for this age group is 20 children. Daily individual reading to a member of staff is an important part of the Pre-Prep child’s day. All children have homework each week and nightly reading. The children are encouraged to read a variety of genre at home.

  • THE PREP DEPARTMENT….is for children aged 8 to 11. This department has a broad curriculum including French and Latin, and also prepares the children for the important entrance exams into the local Independent Grammar and High Schools. The maximum class size for this age group is 25 children. All Prep classes have nightly homework.
  • St Josephs maintains a sound tradition in music and sports including: Netball, Hockey, Cricket, Football, Tennis and Rugby’.

St. Joseph’s Before and After School Club is very popular for those children with working parents, this extends our school day from 8am to 5:50pm where needed. Additionally we offer a wide range of extra curriculum activities such as: Music Club, Gym Club, Football Coaching, Dance Workshops, Gardening Club and Cookery Club.
